What it is
CreaTiVù is an application for the participative production of TV programs and for their distribution on multi-platform channels (DVB, WebTV, IPTV, mobile channel). This Open Source application will be released at the end of 2008 on this website. In the meantime, it is possible to have a preview of the prototype:How it works
User classes
The access to CreaTiVù services depends on the type of the user:- anonymous: no authentication is needed, can access to video gallery in read-only modality;
- registered: can join CreaTiVù community, upload videos and give feedbacks;
- publisher: designated by CreaTiVù administrators: validates videos, builds, defines and schedules TV programs;
- administrator: designated by the service provider: has total control over contents and users.
Workflow
CreaTiVù application allows the creation of TV programs and their distribution on multi-platform channels, DVB, WebTV, IPTV, mobile, starting from the web community contributions, as shown in the following picture:
Video gallery
From CreaTiVù homepage it is possible to visit the video gallery, have information about available services and community contributions, through the menu bar, the tag cloud, the section bar, the advanced search form.Upload page
User generated contents can be added to the participative video library through the upload page.CreaTiVu Uploader
Videos can be uploaded also through the proper application “CreaTiVùUploader”, which must be downloaded and installed locally on one's own PC.
Video description page
A set of metadata is associated to each video. They can be automatically generated (creation date, duration, number of views), defined by the owner (author/s, visibility, CC license, title, description, thematic section, tags) or put in by the web community (vote, thematic section, tags, validity).Playlist editor
Publisher users, after evaluating the best “clips” in terms of semantic contents and playing quality, create TV programs using the proper “playlist editor” tool in the “programs” section.The creation process can be executed both in a manual way, by putting videos on a timeline, and in an automatic one, by using an “optimization engine” that select clips according to some set up constraints chosen by the user.
In the following screencast, it is possible to have a look at an example of a TV program creation. The example program is made of three manually selected clips, and a virtual clip. The virtual clip automatically returns the clips matching the set up constraints: 40 minutes of total duration, fun section, and a range of time of uploading.
Program scheduler
Publishers can schedule programs, using the proper “program scheduler” tool in the “schedule” section, to be played on the channels available on the distribution platforms.Playout
At present, we are using the DVB distribution channel in the laboratory: the scheduled programs are reproduced on the digital television channel through the audio-video transcoding and the generation of a television signal using a set top box linking the PC to the TV.Download
